The first physiological signs of an unexpected panic attack can be detected up to 45 minutes before the panic attack itself. With the project: “SAAM”, the possibility of designing a wearable that can signal an oncoming panic attack before it manifests was explored. The result is Saam, an interactive wearable able to signal oncoming panic attacks with the use of several sensors for heart rate, perspiration and the blood-oxygen level. When an oncoming panic attack is sensed Saam will alert the user with two nudges. As a first warning Saam warms up to alert the user in a friendly way that attention is needed. If the symptoms continue Saam will tighten, ensuring that the user is fully focussed on Saam, stimulating the user to control their breathing.
